Senior Project Reflection

The theme of the group project was an overall summary of what RCHS life looks like. The hardest part of the assignment was creating our own music sound track to use for the video and the easiest/ most fun part was creating the videos.

Capstone

I had three major items at my table including my laptop (middle), end product ( right side of laptop), and my infographic (tripod on the right side of the table. I also had a table cloth covering the table and a folder with my final research paper and 20 interview questions.

My presentation took about 4 minutes and both judges came to judge mine at 5:00. Before the judges came I had juniors waiting for me to set up my table so that they could write their papers for PCC and get out of school.

The hardest part was preparing for the presentation and getting myself to dress up because I can not stand formal clothing. Once I got comfortable in my own skin the presentation was very easy because I already knew everything and the judges looked impressed. The most fun was after I finished presenting because I was able to look at everyone else's projects and socialize. I also played some soccer in the back corner of El paso because my friend had a soccer ball for his presentation, but he finished the presentation so we were free to do whatever.

In addition to the other things we have created, I will have a survey that people can take in order to get them involved with my problem. It will allow them to describe a robot that they would be most comfortable around. I will also include pictures of the different types of robotic nurses created with descriptions about them. A table cloth would be more attractive and I will dress up in a suit to look professional.

Infographic Review

My capstone project states that we have a low nursing workforce and we need to incorporate robotic nurses into the medical industry so that our nurses are not being overwhelmed by a large amount of tasks within a short amount of time. The robotic nurses will create less stress and allow nurses to spend more time with each patient which will reduce mistakes. My infographic shows all of the benefits that robotic nurses have and a statistic report on how many patients would like robotic nurses to care for them.
I made this in Winter Term and the hardest thing was creating a list of statistics.
I added more statistics this time around.

Infographic Poster Info

Title and introduction: The employment of robotic nurses will lead to an improved healthcare system by reducing mistakes and allowing patients to recover faster through robotic aid in rehabilitation exercises.

Body 1:  Most of the technology in the medical field today is to consistently record data about a patient; however, most of these records are not relative to the patient’s problems and therefore is useless.

Body 2: Technology will be the future of the medical industry because it provides a faster, safer, more stable, less invasive, more accurate, and more intelligent way of surgeries and medical procedures

Body 3: ADU (Automated Dispensing Unit) helps dispense proper medicine necessary for specific patients in a timely manner which has allowed nurses to get the correct dosage amount every time.

Conclusion: Technology is the next step forward and the creation of a robotic nurse will be a huge help for the medical industry.

PSA for Capstone Project Concept

I addressed my statement of intent by stating the dangerous facts about nursing. Then I used those statistics to convince the people that robotic nurses should be developed and implemented into all hospitals in order to improve hospital care and save more lives.

My project contained words and music in the background.

If I were to change anything, I would have created a Prezi instead of a PowerPoint because it is more pleasing to the eye and I could use sentence structures instead of 1-3 words per slide.

The hardest part in creating my video was trying to time the slides to where each sentence would flow together easily. It was difficult trying to make everything flow together when there could be 1 word, or 3 words on each slide. In total there were 40 slides and each slide lasted about 3/4 of a seconds.

The easiest part of the PSA Video was inserting the music. The upload was simple and the only thing I changed was the length of the music and the Fade In/Fade Out effects.

Overall, I enjoyed creating this PSA video because I was able to experiment with transitions in PowerPoint.

Capstone Project Statement of Intent

Today nurses are overworked, underpaid, and very stressed. Overworking makes them tired and stress makes them unhealthy which leads to mistakes. Nurses need more employees but the population is too small to develop enough nurses. The main solution is to introduce robotic nurses into the medical facilities in order to reduce the insane workload on nurses which will lead to less mistakes and therefore less deaths. The only problem with introducing robotic nurses into the industry is that some people are uncomfortable with the idea of robots taking care of them. I will create a survey where patients can describe what would make them feel more comfortable around robots (synthetic skin, smiling, human reactions, etc.) in order to create a robot that would be more personable with patients.
PSA Assignment

Examples:
The Girl Effect PSA - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIvmE4_KMNw
This video kept me watching because of the words and the background music. It showed a way to get girls out of poverty and improve the world as a unit.

No Kid Hungry - https://www.youtube.com/watch?x-yt-ts=1421782837&x-yt-cl=84359240&v=2RUYkzJio24
This video was very entertaining and eye opening because of the dramatic music and the children who looked hungry and lonely. It made me think about how lucky I am to eat every day.

The article explaining how to write a PSA helped because it provided a simple and easy to follow layout of requirements. I learned to stick straight to the facts and only talk about results. I should use formal language and make it emotional so that others can connect with my PSA. I need to make it clear for the audience and include music and sound effects to keep the audience's attention.  At the end of your PSA you should be able to

My PSA:

I will emphasize that
1) 90,000 people die per year because of nurses' mistakes
2) robotic nurses can reduce the amount of mistakes
3) Nurses will not be overworked and stressed
4) Robots are 100% effective and can work any time of the day
5) Nurses approve and support robot aid

Visuals and Audio:
I will introduce the PSA with dead bodies covered by bags in a medical facility and state, "90,000 people die each year due to nurse's mistakes." Then I will talk about the benefits of the robots and how nurses approve them. Then, I will end the PSA with, "Don't let this be you."
The audio will be a piano background that makes it dramatic sort of like the commercials asking for donations to help abused dogs and other animals.

Type of PSA;
I am going to have a dramatic PSA with a shocking introductory image and suspenseful music. This PSA is relating to deaths so it will be very serious and contain text (one to two words per slide)

Outline:
Intro- Dramatic music in the background. Several images of dead bodies inside bags located in a medical facility.
Body- Describe that 90,000 people die per year due to nursing mistakes. List the solution of robots and its benefits.
Conclusion- Support robotic care and donate so that you can ensure you and your family are safe. Don't Don't become one of these people. (Show bodies in a bag and fade the image out to end the PSA)

Capstone Project Statement of Intent

  • The goal of my project is to help people understand that robots are a necessity in the nursing work force and convince them to have more robot nurses work in hospitals. I will also try to help people feel comfortable with the idea of being cared for by a robot. If robots are approved for human care, then it will allow nurses to work less, reduce stress, and provide more accurate healthcare.
  • It's important because our population is on the rise and there are not enough nurses to take care of all our patients, so they are making more mistakes that lead to deaths. Why are they making more mistakes? Because they are being overworked, underpaid, and have high stress levels.
  • The goal of making people more comfortable with the idea of robots will allow hospitals to implement more robots without worrying about a decreased amount of patients; therefore, I will have improved the nursing career by allowing patients to accept robot care. I have already talked to several nurses and all of them believe that robots would be highly beneficial and approve of them. Most people are worried that robots will take away their jobs, but this isn't true because you can not program a robot to recognize human feelings and nor could robots comfort the patient.
  • It gives back to society by allowing hospitals to use more robotic nurses because they won't have to worry about patients leaving their care due to insecurity in robotic technology. So nurses will make less mistakes, reduce stress levels, and stop overworking. It will improve healthcare overall.

Final Yearbook

My theme is "Where equality comes first" because I wanted to resemble how Richland takes diversity seriously and accepts it.
I chose this theme because it's very clear and direct. In addition, many people would look for colleges who accept diversity when applying. I was able to explore this theme by using different hands and feet and words. At first I thought about using different ducks, but the hands and feet look more balanced and resemble humans. I used the hands and feet to apply many different colors and effects in order to resemble diversity. My theme relates to the hands and feet by welcoming different people into the RCHS community. My duck also has diversity, friendship, and cooperation inside it. I used a large font with a clear font style in order to make my words stand out.

Yearbook Design

Throughout the process of creating a yearbook cover, I discovered the easiest and quickest cites to use for imagery without copyrighting. I explored different designs using background effects until I finally decided to use a gradient fill. I liked this because I was able to create a purple and green color for one page. In addition I explored tons of different colors because I was trying to make the 6 ducks look diverse. I discovered that I could use Shift and + to change the color of my duck and Ctrl V to paste the same size duck. I was also able to create a new clip art duck with the help of my professor. I also used a font that I got from the internet as well by downloading and installing the font into Photoshop. Overall I learned a lot from creating this yearbook and it was very entertaining to create.
Typography

I explored the word "death" by blending together flames and wood to resemble destruction. I used this word because it's a very clear word that anyone can relate to or imagine and because of that it was very simple for me to create a picture that was similar to the word. I used a font called "infected" that helped bring a sort of Gothic effect to the text.

Capstone Poster Outline

Title and Intro: The future of nursing. Today, nurses are overworked, stressed, and underpaid: however, we've found a solution.
Body 1: The introduction of robot nurses will save us $21 billion a year and save 90,000 lives. These patients die every year because of simple mistakes that nurses make caused by stress and long working hours.
Body 2: Overall they will improve care and there will be less illness where the patients can overcome their sickness quicker because the nurses are able to spend more time ensuring correct medication is given to the patient instead of moving them from place to place.
Body 3: 7% of the population will be saved per ear and there will be a much faster response by nurses because they won't be so busy anymore.
Conclusion: Robots will be the future of the medical industry whether you like it or not; however, this survey concludes that the far majority of people would like healthcare from a robot because of they never make mistakes.

This is the new poster. I removed the old poster and deleted the file.
